Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities

  • Clean and straighten exam rooms to prepare for incoming patients following OSHA guidelines
  • Be familiar with infectious and common zoonotic diseases; including prevention, and the steps to reduce or eliminate transmission
  • Assist in restraining pets in a manner that allows necessary procedures to be done with minimal stress to patients, and ensure safety of patients and people 
  • Take accurate notes and medical history of patients in exam rooms for doctors
  • Anticipate the needs of the doctor for routine exam/surgery visits; follow doctors request to fill or refill medications
  • Take temperatures, samples, vitals as requested by doctor; draw up vaccines, flea/tick medication/prevention, etc.

Veterinary Assistant Qualifications 

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Advanced experience as a veterinary technician or assistant required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Possess a good attitude and contribute to a positive work environment
  • Strong English — written and verbal language skills
  • Animal care, restraints, client/customer interaction experience required
  • Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, labwork, radiology, and pharmacology highly preferred

We are a four-doctor doctor practice and our Licensed Veterinary Technicians are an integral part of our hospital team. The ideal Licensed Veterinary Technician will be a driver of hospital procedures and workflow, focusing on creating an outstanding customer experience and taking pride in offering unmatched compassionate care. You will establish a movement of patients and clients through appointments. You will ensure communication with clients is clear and understood, via phone, text, and email. Additional responsibilities include  performing quality full body and dental radiographs for subsequent evaluation by DVMs, obtaining and recording patient history, and providing surgical discharges and home care instructions to clients after patient procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Veterinary Technician Certification or License (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) preferred or valid LVT credentials in Washington or pending credentials within 6-8 months.
  • Ability to assist in animal restraint, lift up to 40 lbs., and work on your feet all day.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, dental prophies
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with coworkers and clients
